The WP2Woo Podcast – Episode 17

Welcome to Episode 17 of the WP2Woo Podcast.

This week we talk about Cumulative Layout Shift, Full Site Editing, how old time marketing can still work today and make you money, a genuinely responsive slider for Elementor and much more.

What’s new

Full site editing

Expect an announcement as early as April 14 – but more likely around April 27 about full site editing and whether we will see it in WordPress 5.8 or not

What is full site editing – full site editing is a total shift in the way we think of WordPress and how we use it. Blocks are moving out of the content area of a WordPress post or page and are taking over the header, the footer and even the sidebar … and that means that it’s going to have an impact on themes.

While it may move into all those areas in the future it’s unlikely that we will see it in all those areas in 5.8

But eventually will we see the end of plugins like Black Studio?

And when you want to know more about FSE this article will help.

Kadence WP Acquired

Kadence WP – the makers of Kadence blocks and the Kadence theme – has been acquired by iThemes … who were acquired by Liquid Web back in 2018.

From the bunker

The website from hell

No security – no backups – built with a minimalist theme so using the customizer to change things is not really an option – still uses classic editor – over 40 plugins – many of which are known to be speed and resource hogs – links that don’t work – payment options not linked from the website – it’s been in staging for 21 months.

What a mess.

We have been working as consultants for the site owner to get the developer off their bum and finish the site – we convinced them to make it live so we could see the problems … and there are dozens of them. Now we have to prod the developer into fixing them

Makes us both angry to see such a mess because the owner had great plans to grow an empire that would have worked – he had a great idea – but now he is struggling to survive because the website is still not ready.

Plugin

Elementor has no truly responsive slider but Toni has found a plugin that works perfectly – it’s called Smart Slider 3 and it’s not just for Elementor.
